Gin & Tonic Sorbet
Craving a refreshing treat this Bank Holiday? Well here at Hogarth’s we desperately want to share this fantastic sorbet recipe that will definitely get your taste buds screaming in delight.
This frozen treat claims not satiate hunger or even slightly fill your belly after a hard day’s work but it does aim to explode your taste buds in a burst of refreshment and get yourself ready to enjoy a glass (or few) of your favourite gin and tonic. It can even be tweaked to suit those on specific eating plans like WW or Slimming World.
Sorbet’s history still is a mystery to many with no one really knowing where it started and who created it. It is believe this frozen delight was created during the Roman Empire when Emperor Nero sent servants for ice flavoured with fruit and honey. No matter its history – sorbet has wowed palates for many, many years and with new and improved methods and flavourings its popularity has grown and grown!
At Hogarth’s we pride ourselves in knowing the best of the best in the gin world and our knowledge of food recipes is no different. We have done our research and no surprise this G&T sorbet recipe is definitely the best out there. Simple and easy to make – you will have a delicious sorbet ready in less than 5 hours. We used Malfy Con Limone Gin for that extra, extra refreshing taste.
Here’s what you need
400g caster sugar (for those of you on SW replace with Granulated Sweetener)
400ml tonic water (light/diet if on SW/WW)
4 tbsp gin – choose your favourite tipple, we used Malfy Con Limone Gin
Zest and juice 1 lime plus extra slices to freeze
Zest 1 lemon, juice of half, plus extra slices to freeze
1 egg white
What you need to do
- Put the sugar in a pan with 400ml water and warm over a low heat until dissolved. Increase the heat and boil for 1 min. Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly.
- Drink some gin
- Pour the tonic water into a bowl, add the sugar syrup, then chill in the fridge until cold.
- Whilst you are waiting, use the remaining tonic and make yourself a G&T. Then sit down, relax and enjoy it – you have time!
- Once the tonic mix is cold, add the gin, lime and lemon zests and juice, and pour into a container, then freeze until just frozen – this will take about 2 hrs.
- Now you have 2 hours – you can either do some household chores or you can grab the remaining gin, a large glass, and tonic and fling yourself on the couch and catch up on that TV you have set on record for the past week.
- Remove the just-frozen sorbet from the freezer and break up with a fork. Froth the egg white with a fork, then add both to a food processor and pulse to blitz together – do it quickly so it doesn’t actually start to melt. Pour the mix back into your container and freeze until solid. Freeze extra slices of lemons and limes on a tray until solid. Serve the sorbet scooped into glasses or small bowls topped with lemon and lime slices
So what are you waiting for? Get yourself some of your favourite gin and wack up a batch of this smashing G&T sorbet.
