Itchy eyes, runny noses and a constant stream of sneezes – many of us out there are seasonal sufferers of the almighty Hay-fever. We are left with symptoms that make us want to shut out Summer and avoid the outside altogether. But here at Hogarths, we want you to enjoy the magic that is the British Summertime and we have a rather creative cure that will hopefully ease those sniffly symptoms.

For many years, the glorious Gin and Tonic has been famous for its medicinal effects. Since its unearthing in the early 1800s, the G&T has helped many ailments such as Malaria, Liver Disease, Joint Pain and now even the side effects of Hayfever. As we know, Quinine (found in many tonics) sourced from the Fever Tree – hence why the brand got its name – has been proven to do be the perfect remedy time and time again.

All Hail The Hay-Fever Helper

According to Asthma UK, you can find some help in clear spirits such as gin and vodka, which have a relatively low histamine content. The histamine being what causes the symptoms of Hayfever in the first places. But while sipping a G&T won’t fully cure Hayfever symptoms fully, it is definitely something we are willing to try!

As more and more studies are developing about the health benefits of the great G&T, at Hogarths we recommend a gin of choice if you wish to ward off any runny noses or itchy eyes in our wonderful beer gardens this summer season. Developed and created in 2017, Warner Edwards Honey Bee gin would be one of our top choices for those of who wishing to prevent those sneezy symptoms. Research has shown that honey has the ability to relive Hayfever symptoms as a spoonful contains small amounts of the pollen many of us have an allergy to, prolonged exposure results in a build-up in immunity and voila…symptoms can be relieved.

So if you want to combine two wonderful Hayfever cures then grab yourself a perfect serve of Honeybee Gin and save yourself from the pesky pollen whilst enjoying a glorious G&T at Hogarths this summer.

Saturday 8th June marks one of the best gin events in the calendar and we will be celebrating ‘World Gin Day’ throughout our palaces across the weekend. During this fantastic day, get yourselves to Hogarths and try some of our 100 phenomenal gins that we have to offer. So whether you are a gin fanatic or a newbie to gin, you will definitely find a gin that floats your boat.

Where did the celebrations beGIN?

Founded by Neil Houston 2009 – this fantastic day was born from a bright idea Neil had to meet up with friends in Birmingham and share a gin (or two). One of Neil’s friends including fellow gin enthusiast Emma Stokes, decided to take the Gin party to a quaint bar in Soho, London called Graphic in 2010. Since then, the day has grown and grown and now reaches a more extensive audience.

In 2013, Emma took charge and decided to make the day bigger than ever creating social media platforms to promote the celebration. As of today, World Gin Day is celebrated in over 30 countries globally and has a fan base of over 200 million on social media networks. It really is GINsane!

How this year is going to be the best yet?

To really throw a celebration we like to give something back to everyone. This year we have asked all our gin loving customers to visit their favourite Hogarths and bring with them a can of beans…….yes a tin of baked beans! Why? Because if you bring a can of beans into us in return we will give you a free Zymurgorium perfect serve, that’s a 50ml measure of gin, premium mixer and garnish. Seems like a fair swap right? And what about the beans? We’ll be donating them to local food banks.

With World Gin Day moments away, the teams across our Hogarths have also worked together to give you a chance of winning some amazing prizes this weekend. To celebrate, each of our 13 Hogarths are creating individual World Gin Tray based on which Gin you vote for! Each week YOU have chosen gins to feature in our World Gin Tray and as the weeks have passed, the general public has chosen some of our favourite gintastic tipples to showcase in our trays.

So with the winners of each round featuring the likes of Tanqueray, Hendricks, Pinkster and Zymurgorium – get yourselves to your local Hogarth’s Facebook page to vote for you next favourite gin. Winners from each Hogarth’s are chosen at random and presented with our fantastic ‘chosen by you’ gin tray to enjoy with those around you. So from all of us at Hogarth’s – Happy World Gin Day – get voting and give yourself a chance to win something GINspirationa

What’s In The name?

Puerto de Indiasis a Premium Gin manufactured in the sunny Seville region in one of the oldest distilleries in the province of Andalusia. Its name derives from the discovery of the Americas during the time in which Seville was becoming a huge trading port between Spain and the New world. With the literal translation being “Indian Ports”, it’s clear that the creation of this brand wanted to focus heavily on the significance of sharing brilliant new flavours and ideas around the world.

History

Dating back to the 1800s, Puerto de Indias’ distillery history emerged when an immigrant carrying the name Izaguirre travelled to Carmona when fleeing the war. He settled on the land, that now houses the distillery, and decided to begin creating a series of spirits using traditional copper methods. Throughout time, these facilities have witnessed the birth of wonderful products such as anisette, Pacharan and most recently three glorious types of gin: Strawberry, Classic and Pure Black Edition.

So with three gorgeous gins to choose from and Hogarths stocking their scrumptious Strawberry edition, come along to your nearest glorious gin palace to try the gin that most definitely will be a summer staple these upcoming mouth-watering months.
